Interaction of Mucins with Proteins and Polymers and Its Influence on the Interfacial Lubricity

چکیده
In this study, we present the interaction of mucins with proteins or polymers and its impact on the conformation, surface adsorption, and lubrication properties at a self-mated sliding contact of poly(dimethylsiloxane) (PDMS) in aqueous solutions. Due to its unique amphiphilicity, mucins are known to spontaneously adsorb onto hydrophobic surfaces and possibly lubricate them in aqueous environment. This study demonstrates that the lubricity of mucins can be substantially altered following the interaction with proteins and polymers, which implies that interaction of mucins with proteins and polymers can be employed to engineer biointerfaces and tailor the lubricity.

Characterization of Lubricity of Mucins at Polymeric Surfaces for Biomedical Applications
--The lubricating properties of commercially available mucins originating from different animal organs, namely bovine submaxillary mucin (BSM) and porcine gastric mucin (PGM), have been characterized at polymeric surfaces for biomedical applications. Atomic force microscopy (AFM) and pin-on-disk tribometry have been employed for tribological studies at nanoscale and macroscale contacts, respect...

Glycation of Human IgG Induces Structural Alterations Leading to Changes in its Interaction with Anti-IgG
Background: Glycation of proteins is a non-enzymatic spontaneous process that occurs in diabetes mellitus and aging, altering the structure and function of proteins. IgG undergoes glycation leading to changes in its reactivity to antigen and fixation of complement. Objective: This study aimed at revealing the effect of glycation on the interaction of IgG with anti-IgG using electroimmunoassay...
متن کاملSynthesis and Nucleation Mechanism Recognition of BaSO4 Nanoparticle in the Presence of Biopolymers
A major portion of BaSO4 is used as drilling fluid additives in the presence of some biopolymers such as starch and PAC (Polyanionic Cellulose) as filtration control and viscosifier. BaSO4 nanoparticle was synthesized in the presence of these applicable polymers with precipitation method by using BaS produced from carbothermal method and Na2SO4. Synthesized nanoparticles size and morphology wer...

The chemical surfactant flooding can mobilize the trapped oil by lowering the interfacial tension between oil and brine and in some cases altering the reservoir rock wettability. In this work, the effect of surfactants on oil/brine interfacial tension was experimentally investigated. First, the effect of surfactants concentration was surveyed. Afterwards, the effect of salinity on surfactant be...
